Chief Deputy Brett bailey

Biography

 

Brett began his career in June 1991 as a corrections officer at the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. He was part of Hays County’s first Reserve Peace Officer Academy and, in October 1993, transitioned to the Patrol Division, where he was assigned to Wimberley.

 

After three years in patrol, Brett left Hays County to join the Austin Police Department (APD), where he built a distinguished career primarily in investigations. Rising through the ranks, he retired in March 2024 as a lieutenant overseeing the Homicide and Aggravated Assault Units. Shortly after, he returned to Hays County as the Office of Professional Responsibility Inspector.

 

Following the retirement of Chief Deputy Mike Davenport, Sheriff Hipolito appointed Brett as Chief Deputy, recognizing his leadership, experience, and commitment to public service. Chief Bailey now plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office and ensuring the safety and security of Hays County residents.
