Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Program

Becoming a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) in Hays County
New VDRs may visit the Hays County Elections Office in San Marcos during normal business hours (no appointment necessary) to take the VDR exam. The VDR guide is provided and the exam is open-note. Once you pass the exam, we will issue you a Hays County VDR certificate and provide you with VDR voter registration applications.
VDR Reciprocity
Reciprocal VDRs may send a copy of your current (i.e. non-expired) VDR certificate issued by another county in Texas to be appointed as a Hays County VDR. Once your other county VDR certificate is received and processed, we will email you a digital copy of your VDR certificate and mail the card to your address of record. Please provide the following information in your message:
- Name
- Address of record
- Phone number (mobile preferred)
- A scanned or digital copy of your county VDR certificate/appointment (PDF preferred)
You are also welcome to visit our office in person to receive your Hays VDR materials.
