HAYS COUNTY, Texas (September 2024) – Hays County is returning to the public for the second open house for the Cape’s Pond Park Plan. The county held an initial open house in May 2024 to gather initial input on preferred park amenities and programmatic park elements. Based on the feedback received, the project team has developed two potential design plans for Cape’s Pond Park and is seeking further input before developing the final Conceptual Park Plan.
The upcoming open house is an opportunity for San Marcos residents to review the proposed concepts, speak with the project team and provide feedback. The open house will be in-person for participants to come and go as they please. Materials shared at the open house will be available online and an online survey will be available.

Situated near the San Marcos River just east of I-35 in San Marcos, Texas, Cape’s Pond Park is a 28.7-acre property that includes a 5.8-acre pond. Hays County acquired the land in 2020 through a 2018 transportation bond and the acquisition was originally intended to provide multi-modal connectivity throughout San Marcos, including the local trail systems.
The pond will be included in Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Community Fishing Lake program, which includes special regulations and is frequently stocked by TPWD with channel catfish, rainbow trout or other species to provide quality fishing opportunities close to home.
Comments may be submitted through the website, in person at the open house or through the online survey from Sept. 26, 2024, to Oct. 11, 2024. Visit www.haysparksbond.com/capespond-openhouse to learn more and share your input!
