HCSO Types of Job Postings
The Hays County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is looking for new team members. We have three (3) positions that are permanent postings:
Deputy – must have a Peace Officer License and be 21 years of age.
Corrections Officer – must be 21 years of age or older to apply.
Emergency Communications Officer – must be 18 years of age or older.
We also offer civilian positions across all divisions within HCSO.
Read the information below to learn more about the testing requirements for each type of position.
Testing listed below for each position is subject to change and by appointment only. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensed applicants will be given two (2) opportunities to pass each level of pre-employment testing. After your second attempt, should you fail to pass you may reapply in six (6) months.
Physical Agility
Passing = Completion pf Physical Agility test within three minutes and fifty seconds (3:50)
Typing
Report Writing
General Knowledge Exam
Applicants will sit for a written exam of 100 questions divided into four timed sections. Test sections include:
Passing = Completion of exam with a score of 70 or above.

After a period of instruction applicant must be able to:

General Knowledge Exam
Applicants will sit for a written exam of 50 timed questions. Test sections include:
Passing = Completion of exam with a score of 70 or above.
Critical
Applicants will sit for a computer based exam. Test sections include:
Passing = Completion of exam with a score of 70 or above.
Typing
Minimum of 30 WPM
Applicants will sit for a general knowledge written exam of 50 timed questions. You must pass with a score of 70 or above.
Depending on the position, pre-employment testing may include but are not limited to typing, physical agility, testing for vehicle maintenance, etc.
After your second attempt, should you fail to pass pre-employment testing, you may reapply in six (6) months.
