HCSO Mental Health Crisis Unit
The Mental Health Crisis Unit consists of one sergeant, four certified mental health deputies and one mental health liaison. Mental Health Officers work on rotation schedules Monday-Friday covering times from 6 a.m.-midnight. The Mental Health Liaison works Monday-Friday on flexible hours with on-call status up to 10 p.m.

Unit Mission:
Further the Sheriff’s Mission through providing the community with assigned Mental Health Officer’s and taking a proactive attitude within law enforcement for individuals facing mental health crisis.
Mental Health Officer’s will transport funded and unfunded individuals, who meet the criteria for hospitalization, to Local Medical Hospitals or Mental Health Facilities deemed sufficient to stabilize the immediate crisis.
Mental Health Officer’s will follow up with individuals, who have experienced a crisis that may or may not meet criteria for an Emergency Detention. This includes the possibility of conducting a home visit with an individual, who has been released from a Local Hospital or Mental Health Facility, on a case-by-case bases.
Mental Health Officer’s will assist patrol with mental health calls for service when available.
Mental Health Officer’s work hand in hand with our local mental health professionals, such as the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT). Mental Health Officer’s may assist MCOT (Mobil Crisis Outreach Team) with field visits that may require a Law Enforcement presence for any safety issues. Mental Health Officer’s will continue to build resources for individuals who need assistance finding help for their crisis.
