Mpox is a rare but potentially serious disease that is caused by the mpox virus.  Mpox virus is from the same family of viruses as the smallpox virus that can cause a rash that may look like pimples or blisters, sometimes with a flu-like illness. The threat of mpox to the general Hays County population remains low.
